The Regents' Cup
About the Regents' Cup
The Regents' Cup is a tri-university speech and debate competition presented by the Arizona Board of Regents. Student orators attending the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, or Arizona State University represent their institution at this annual event in Oxford debate and Storytelling categories. The Regents' Cup honors participants for articulating different points of view in an environment where competitors remain civil and respectful.
The 2025 Regents' Cup
Who: Application now open and due by October 30th, 2024!
When: April 12, 2025
Where: Northern Arizona University
Theme: The annual Regents' Cup competition is a celebration of free speech and civil discourse. The theme for the 2025 Regents' Cup is The Government and the People: The Social Contract.
Student Eligibility Requirements
- Full-time student (first-year through graduate students) at one of Arizona's public universities at the time of the Regents' Cup
- 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA
- Application and essay submitted to Arizona Board of Regents' website
- Meet university expectations for preparation and participation
- Participate in Regents' Cup, April 12th, 2025 at Northern Arizona University
Awards and Prizes
Students selected to represent their university at the Regents' Cup are eligible to receive internship or course credit for their work and earn scholarships for participating. In addition, the board awards generous scholarships to first-, second- and third-place winners in the Oxford debate and Storytelling categories. All team members receive a scholarship award for participating. These scholarships are a one-time cash award and can be used by students, at their discretion, to support and advance their education.
